چکیده

Iii their original description of the induced skin tumors of the rabbit, Yamagiwa and Itchikawa (14) detailed several morphological types of neo plasm with varying life histories. These tumors have been analyzed even more closely by Rous and Kidd (1@), who have shown that a series of graded lesions are produced by applications of either tar or pure hydrocarbons, ranging from warts that re gress to malignant metastasizing tumors. In the case of the mouse, it has been observed many times that a typical sequence of induced hyper plasia gives way to papilloma formation and that malignant transformation of some of these papil lomas occurs. Here, too, the phenomenon of re gression has been recorded. It has been noted that different carcinogenic hydrocarbons give rise to a variation in the type of neoplastic skin lesions in the mouse; in particular, the potent 9,10-dimethyl 1,@-benzanthracene has been observed by Brad bury et at. (7) to give rise to more papillomas than the other compounds used ; methylcholanthrene has been found to be an effective carcinogen when administered as a single large skin application (10), and the tumors so induced (6) have been found to be largely carcinomatous from the mo ment of their first macroscopic recognition. So far, no detailed survey of the tumors induced in the skin of the mouse, similar to that carried out for the rabbit, has been reported. Since it was demonstrated by Mottram (11) that a single application of a carcinogenic hydro carbon followed by repeated applications of croton

EFFECT OF IRON OVERLOAD ON 7, 12-DIMETHYLBENZ (A) ANTHRACENE-INDUCED SKIN TUMORIGENESIS

Iron overload is known to occur in the West European and American population due to the consumption of iron-rich diets. On the other hand, genetic disorders leading to iron overload are also known. Iron overload leads to increased peroxidation and disruptive disintegration of lipid-rich membranes, and predisposes humans for an enhanced risk of cancer induction. In experimental animals iron ...

Ambivalent Effects of Atorvastatin on Angiogenesis, Epidermal Cell Proliferation and Tumorgenesis in Animal Models

Background: A growing body of preclinical data indicates that statins may possess antineoplastic properties however, some studies have raised the possibility that statins may also have carcinogenic potential. Methods: An air pouch model was used for angiogenesis. Single or multiple applications of croton oil on the back of Swiss albino mice with or without initiation by dimethylbenz(a)antherace...

The effects of whole green tea infusion on mouse urinary bladder chemical carcinogenesis

Objective(s):Green tea (GT) is one of the most popular beverages worldwide whose beneficial effects on health have been demonstrated. Recent studies suggest that GT may contribute to reduction of cancer risk and progression. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of whole GT on urinary bladder chemical carcinogenesis in male and female ICR mice. Materials and Methods: The GT charact...

Prostaglandins, Histamine and Platelet Activating Factor: Different Mediators in Dithranol-Induced Skin Damage

Dithranol is a potent agent in treating psoriasis but its adverse effects on intact skin have limited its usage. There are many proposed mediators for its adverse effects including prostaglandins, histamine, platelet activating factor and free radicals. In this study we examined the effect of different agents (diazepam, terfenadine, indomethacin and garlic extract) on dithranol-induced skin dam...

Study the Effect of Silymarin and Vitamin C in Skin Aging Induced by UVB Rays on the Mice Skin Redox System

Background: Exposure of the skin against occupational hazards is growing every day. Many scientists are trying to identify aspects about the mechanisms of damages done to the skin by them. The skin is the second metabolism organ of the body where redox-dependent metabolic pathways overcome. By considering the UV index, Iranians are at high risk of UVB damage by generation of reactive oxygen spe...
